Strange Girl Limited Edition Impressions

Strange Girl Limited Edition Impressions

Just like a kid addicted to crack, I ordered up the Strange Girl Limited Edition. When I saw that this collection was going to be in limited quantities, I ran to the trusty Amazon website and ordered up a copy. I then got to sit and wait for what was weeks on end to finally get my copy. After what felt like an eternity of waiting, my graphical fix showed up at my door.

So, was it worth the wait. It sure was. There are four trade paperbacks in a nice slip cover. Each paperback has a decent amount of weight to it. The covers are of a decent thickness and have a waxy coating on them. Overall the four paperbacks speak to the virtues of limited edition.

The slipcase itself is nice. Not super model in a bikini washing my car nice, but nicer than other slipcases I have in my possession. It is thick and carries the same waxy coating that the paperbacks do. There is a pretty sweet piece of art from Michael Kaluta on that back. This artwork also bears an original signature! Yep, I sat here for ten minutes just to try and verify that the signature really was in black sharpie ink and not just cheaply printed on.

The only issues I really have with this limited edition slipcase is there appear to be some scuff on the case itself. Now wether this is due to Amazon or Image I cannot say. If the slipcase were in black I probably would not have even noticed the scuff. This is not the case and the markings are clearly visible. There also appears to be a bit of a ding in one of the corners as well. Overall, it is in good shape though.

So is this really worth the MSRP of $49.99? If you are a Strange Girl fan you can bet your ass it is. The overall quality of the whole package is exceptional. The paperback are of a higher quality than normal paperbacks. The slipcase is pretty solid and should do a fine job of protecting the pot of gold inside it. The signed artwork is like a sweet nugget center to the whole deal. Do some shopping around as this can be found for less than the MSRP.

Release Of The Week – The Waking #1

Release Of The Week – The Waking #1

Yeah, it is another zombie book.  The difference here is that the zombies are out for bloody revenge.  The story breaks down like this.  Four police detectives start looking into what appears to be some routine murders.  In the land of comics nothing is routine though.  The victims come back from the dead on a glorious mission to reap redemption on their killers.  Top off this rot-fest with a father who must decide to avenge his daughters death or let her go forever.
The Waking will be a four part mini-series.  Look for this to be a morbid spin on life as it is written by the same mind that wrote the Wonderland Trilogy; Raven Gregory.  We are sure this will be full of scantily clad women, and grotesque horrors that only a mind on acid could perceive.

Webcomic of the Week: Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal

Webcomic of the Week: Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal

Comic: Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal
Artist/Writer: Zach Weiner

It is time to put the kids to bed and hit up a more adult-oriented Webcomic.  No, there is no nudity or 69 different positions to take notes on in this weeks strip.  There are, however, one liners that take on a vast range of issues facing working stiffs like us.

The first thing one will note when hitting this strip is that it looks like your neighbors kid did all the artwork.  Everything from the navigation menus to the boxes surrounding the ads looks like it was drawn with a crayon.  This is not a bad thing as it really keeps the atmosphere of the comic light and fun.  If you walk in trying to take this seriously, you will most likely walk away in some infant temper tantrum.

The comic itself is not going to win any awards for artistic talent.  Every thing is painted with flat primary colors, while the lines are thick and pronounced.  This is a step up from stick figures killing one another with stick swords, but not by much.

The art is not the main feature as the jokes are adulthood gold.  Everything from politics to sex gets the same humorous treatment.  Where else can you come and get an ascii dick joke in one comic and an astrology joke the next?  Even the awesomeness of Carl Sagan is not safe from this strip.  It is almost like Weird Al took up a pen and started writing comics!

Sure, the art might not be up there with the greats, but does it really need to be?  When you can target the worry of asking your wife to orgasm louder in three panels, you get our vote for one week of internet fame.  Just flip through the archives and I bet you find some jokes that will have you LOL’ing when you should be pencil pushing.  Check your rages at the door and enjoy this comic for what it is…humor!

Folks, George Romero needs no introduction, but — just in case, you’re unaware: this is the legendary film-maker who pretty much introduced the concept of flesh-eating zombie bastards with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DAWN OF THE DEAD and DAY OF THE DEAD.
So, when we saw the Godfather of Grue would be bringing his unique vision to the world of comics in collaboration with Marvel Comics — we knew we were in for a treat.
In EMPIRE OF THE DEAD, we’re taken to NYC years after the undead plague has erupted — but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, it doesn’t mean everyone inside is safe!
Not only do flesh-eaters roam within Manhattan, but there’s another ancient predator about to take a bite out of the Big Apple!
Featuring the gritty realistic art of Bendis-era DAREDEVIL and SCARLET artist ALEX MALEEV!
Get into it this Wednesday, Third Eye Faithful.
