DC Comics Universe Reboot – Brings Simultaneous Digital and Print Release

In a move that should surprise no one, DC Comics has decided, once again, to reboot their whole entire universe. They’re focusing on 52 books, all of them going back to number one. According to Comic Book Resources, titles will include:

A new title starring Superman written by Grant Morrison.
Teen Titans #1
Justice Society of America #1
Wonder Woman #1
Green Lantern #1
Hawkman #1.
Aquaman #1

What caught our eye, really, was this bit over on Escapist Magazine:

Justice League #1 will also mark the further entry of comic books into the digital age. Though digital comic books are becoming more common, neither DC nor Marvel have begun to release digital versions of all their books alongside the print versions day-and-date. Starting with Justice League #1, all 52 titles featured in the reboot will be released both digitally and physically on the same day.

We have just one thing to say to this venerable comic publisher: It’s about damn time.

Marvel sets up some of their digital comics each Monday for a 99 cent sale. Get them while their hot. This week, it’s some of the Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely (All Star Superman) run on New X-Men, so you know you want to grab these babies. The eight comics on sale include two 3 issue stories, and a couple of one-offs. All in all, it’s worth your eight dollars.

Telltale Games Hooks Up With DC, Image, for The Walking Dead and Fables Games

Fables, the award winning comic series created and written by Bill Willingham, is coming to gaming consoles near you. The press release boasts, “Fables is one of DC Comics’ longest-running series published under its Vertigo imprint. The series received over a dozen Eisner Awards including for Best Writer, Best New Series, and numerous wins for Best Serialized Story, and was a 2009 Hugo Award nominee for Best Graphic Story.” Fables is a graphic novel that concerns the exiled characters from the world’s storybooks — big Bad Wolf, Pinocchio, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, and many others — as they fight a mysterious Adversary and learn to live in the very real mundane world of New York.

In addition, Telltale has inked a deal with Robert Kirkman and Image Comics, writer and publisher, respectively, of The Walking Dead, another hot property in the graphic novel and television industries. The Walking Dead games are promised to be coming to “PC, Mac, console, handheld, mobile and social gaming media.”

Top Shelf Comics, right? More specifically, Top Shelf 2.0, with fresh webcomics every day, five days a week. This is my new place to check every day. Just sayin.

Gingerbread Girl, image above, is a cute, sweet, indie-flavored comic reprint of a “complete new graphic novel by Colleen & Paul (creators of Banana Sunday, Small Favors, and tons of great superhero stories for Marvel).” By part 3, I was in love with the protagonist and the supporting players. The art is clean, with bold lines and an enthusiasm and confidence that should be seen in all indie books.

Make sure you head over today for this and other great webcomics. While you’re there, of course, check out their catalog of print comics as well.
