Are These Truly the BEST Mini-Series and One Shots of 2011?

There are certainly some interesting choices here – and some books, quite honestly, that I haven’t read yet, which is a very good thing – but does anyone else notice a preponderance of Marvel stuff?  I mean, I kind of gave up on X-Men minis and story runs years ago. Have I really been missing out?  How many books with Wolverine on the cover do we need?

Fortunately, Splash Page’s list is balanced a bit by its inclusion of Knight and Squire and Locke & Key, but what else SHOULD have made this list (and what SHOULD definitely be removed)?  We want to know!

Superman and J. Michael Straczynski

I’ve long been a fan of Mr. Straczynski, from way back in the Babylon 5 days. Now, that show may not have stood the test of time (do NOT go back and watch it on Netflix, ok?), but the new Superman and Wonder Woman series the man is writing have a strong timeless appeal – most notably with Superman.

This week marked the release of issue #708, shown below. I am SO READY to read this one, as I have a fascination with both superheroes in their new story arcs.

For me, this new monthly marks a return to form for Superman. This is our world’s premier superhero. His name itself is synonymous with that term. I knew this would be a spectacular new read when I got the first in the series, #701, and saw the final page:

This is a man of the people, for the people, getting back to where things matter. Not in a ivory space station tower, not in the farthest reaches of space-time, but right here, on Earth, his adoptive home. Make sure you go check this series out, whether in print or electronic format (we WISH!).

You know we should all read this, right? The movie came out, did pretty well, and most of my geeky friends enjoyed it. Must be time to read the comic, preferably in a trade format.
