Another comics site? What the…
Well, the short answer is similar to the one we gave folks when we created Games Are Evil, and then The Portable Gamer. Yes, the ‘net is full of sites that review and preview comics and video games. Yes, we’re competing with folks that have much more money and quite a head start on us, time wise.
All that said, we think we can do it better. Independent comics, digital comics, online comics, web comics — there are all sorts of comics in our brave new world. Yes, Marvel and DC, Vertigo and WildStorm, Image and IDW — these are great comic publishers. There are tons of interesting things going on in the comic industry today, with greater mainstream acceptance, and a greater ability for comic creators to reach an audience.
We’ve built a reputation at the Games Are Evil Network for honest, ethical and straightforward journalism. We’re not going to do paid reviews. Our editorial content cannot be bought, nor sold. If we review a book or strip and say that it’s good, horrible, mediocre — you can trust us.
We’re also going to ask for your participation. YOU are the regular folks reading comics. Not everyone is a super-geek comic reader. Most of us are aging, raising families, spending less time and money on comics. But when we DO spend our money, you bet it’s on quality — and we generally spend more at one sitting than our earlier, middle-school selves. We’re here to help you figure out which ones to get, which ones to pass on, and which ones to grab from your local library when they arrive.
So THAT’S why we’re here — thoughtful reviews and interesting news about a tremendous media – comics. Without all the geekery or excessive fanboy (and fangirl!) stuff.
Comics. Are. Evil. Except when they’re not. ‘Nuff said.
